I work with my patients through an integrative and spiritual approach to not only treat mental illness but to promote physical, mental, and energetic wellness. To do this, we will emphasize using medications for psychiatric stabilization with a common long term goal of tapering off of medications while optimizing natural healing techniques to accomplish a sustained state of wellbeing.
Patients with obsessive-compulsive disorder experience a pattern of unreasonable thoughts and fears that lead them to do repetitive behaviors. These obsessions and compulsions ultimately cause extreme anxiety and interfere with their daily lives.
Obsessive-compulsive disorder often focuses around certain themes—for example, a person may have an intense fear of getting contaminated by germs. As a result, they may try to ease those fears by compulsively washing their hands.
People struggling with OCD will have excessive compulsions or obsessions that interference with their daily routine and social or work functioning.
Obsessive symptoms are unwanted, persistent and repeated thoughts or images that cause anxiety and distress. People with obsessive symptoms may try to ignore them or get rid of them by performing a compulsive behavior. These obsessions tend to have typical themes, such as: fear of contamination or dirt, needing things orderly and symmetrical, aggressive or horrific thoughts about harming yourself or others.
Compulsive symptoms are repetitive behaviors that you may feel driven to perform in order to reduce or prevent anxiety related to obsessions. In most cases, engaging in these compulsions may only bring only a temporary relief of anxiety. As with obsessions, compulsions have themes, such as: washing and cleaning, checking, counting, orderliness, following a strict routine, and demanding reassurances.
Dr. Lee will do a thorough assessment of the patient’s medical history and symptoms to explore the underlying causes of the patients’ obsessions and compulsions. Each case of OCD is unique. Dr. Lee will work with his patients through consistent psychotherapy and natural healing techniques to ease their anxieties and develop strategies to deal with their compulsive behaviors and obsessive thoughts. Dr. Lee may utilize medications to help stabilize the patient and function in society with a common long term goal of tapering off medications.
